Spring Creek Recumbent Bicycles

spring creek recumbent storefront signWe designed the storefront sign for Spring Creek Recumbent Bicycles in 2002. The shop was the first of its kind in Northern Colorado. Unique, and intriguing, recumbent cycling was more of a curiosity than a sport. We took the opportunity to ride several Spring Creek recumbent bikes and found the experience to be…well, fast! These low-slung cycles move out on the open road. However, climbing hills presents challenges. Different leg muscles are used. For example, on a standard bike, cyclists use quads to power up a climb. On a recumbent, it’s the hamstrings and glutes.  But, once developed, the back leg muscles are just as effective. And then there’s that exhilarating downhill that leaves uprights behind…

More than a sign

We assembled the sign by using three layers of high-density urethane. This included shaped letters, art elements and logo. We applied these elements to a black, steel grid. Last, we added air-brushed, graduated color to the sign’s logotype using oil enamel paint.

Turns out, we provided more than a storefront sign for the shop. We also designed the Spring Creek Recumbent logo. In addition, we produced a steady stream of brochures and flyers. Moreover, we managed the bicycle shop’s advertising and marketing program: print advertising, POP advertising and Internet advertising. Below, the Spring Creek Recumbent logo and a sample of the print advertising. The cyclist in the ad is owner, Rob Walton.

First recumbent shop in NOCO

Spring Creek Recumbent Bicycles founding owner, Rob Walton, introduced recumbent cycling to northern Colorado. His positive, clever and enthusiastic business practices delighted his customers and local cycling enthusiasts. Walton’s legacy continues in the subsequent store renamed Rocky Mountain Recumbents.
