THROWBACK THURSDAY the Inn

May 23, 2019 | Gold Leaf Hand Carved Hand Painted Signs | 0 comments

The Inn at City Park is no longer open for guests. However, as a private home, it still graces a beautiful tree-lined avenue in Fort Collins. This week’s Throwback Thursday  “Inn” sign designates this rare 1930’s foursquare structure. It was transformed into an American farmhouse-styled bed and breakfast in the early 2000s. The original home was built in 1935 and updated in 2005. As a result, the refurbishment complemented the structure’s original era architecture. In addition, it featured a serene park-like setting within minutes of historic Old Town Fort Collins.

The Inn at City Park offered five elegantly designed guest rooms. Additionally, throughout the structure, hardwood floors highlighted the beauty and craftsmanship of a bygone era. Outside, beautiful landscaping and gardens provided a quiet place to get away from it all. Finally, the large, wrap-around porch offered views of the city’s historic park and golf course. It was a lovely setting for conversation, refreshment, or contemplation. The Inn front veranda

How we made the Inn sign

In 2005, Paxton Signs designed the Inn’s two-sided sign. We wanted it to reflect the ornate graphics of the early 20th century. Gold leaf letters commanded the attention of passers-by, drawing the eye to the streetcar graphic. (The original streetcar still operates daily during summer months.) Next, the address and the bed and breakfast tagline finished off the design. We shaped the background panels from medium-density signboard. Then, we painted them to correspond with the Inn’s exterior colors. The streetcar was formed from medium-density signboard, then hand-painted. Finally, we added the gold-leafed letters, hand-carved in high-density urethane.
