Designing window graphics

Llinden Street Tattoo window designOccasionally, a project comes along that’s unusual, intriguing, challenging – most of all, fun! Designing window graphics is like that. Creating storefront window art is like having an entirely blank canvas – a very BIG canvas – primed and ready for creativity. Such is the case with Linden Street Tattoo, located in Old Town, Fort Collins, CO.

The process usually begins with an informal conversation with the client about their vision for their storefront advertising. This includes, artistic preferences, logos, cost estimates, and other pertinent information. For example, Linden Street Tattoo initially requested an Art Deco theme: period art that reflected an era of highly stylized geometrics, simple decorative lines, and Deco lettering. They also liked the sheen of Art Deco gold leaf.  We went to work researching style, typefaces and effective visuals. Above, the design LST decided they liked best and approved. Below, three additional designs we presented for their consideration.

After making their selection, the project was a “go” until a last minute consideration popped up…

Ready for anything…

…and anything can happen when it comes to making business decisions. Turns out, LST owners decided they preferred graphics that were more Victorian in design, not Art Deco. After careful consideration, they requested a more traditional approach; a design that would have more filigree, dimensional gold-leafing – basically, more artistic flourish and depth.

Back to the drawing board…

The design process continues. We’ll present another round of ideas, based on LST’s new preferences. Ultimately, our goal is for them to be thrilled with their new identity and storefront signage. If it means going back to the drawing board, that’s what we’ll do. After all, the design stage truly is the “fun” stage. That, and when the window is finished to their satisfaction. Stay tuned…
