The PEAK Church dimensional sign is more than a dimensional sign. It has plenty of dimension, in fact, three layers of it. For instance, there’s a bottom white MDO plywood substrate. Next, a layer of beautifully recycled cedar fence posts that creates a strong, natural aesthetic background. Last, there are hand-carved, silver-leafed letters that announce the sign’s purpose and an embellished hand-painted art element. However, it’s only when you take a closer look at the detailed techniques we used to produce the sign that the diversity of craftsmanship becomes apparent.

The hand-painted sun and cross art
PEAK Community Church liked the idea of enhancing their sign with shimmering silver leaf. Silver leaf is just like gold leaf in terms of application. However, it has an elegance all its own. The letters for PEAK were individually hand-carved, including a hammered detail pattern on each letter. Uniquely, the uneven hammered texture creates angles that help the applied silver leaf catch sunlight, giving the letters a glimmering appearance.

Traditional hand-painted detail
The PEAK Church dimensional sign includes the congregation’s logo – a hand-carved orange sun, painted over a stylized yellow cross (view photo, above). We used a crumpled plastic bag paint-mottling technique to add interesting texture to the sun’s surface.
When possible, RECYCLE!
Fortunately, PEAK Community Church is aware of the need to protect our environment through waste management. Rather than using new materials, they embraced the idea of repurposing and recycling old cedar fence posts. Of course, recycling old weathered wood has been one of our business missions for many years (see our website’s “REPURPOSED WOOD” section, www.paxtonsigns.com/repurposed_wood/). So, we were happy to make that effort happen.
When the PEAK Church dimensional sign is installed, we’ll post photos of it in its new home.
