Vintage Clock Antiques Sign

throwback thursday vintage clock signThe Vintage Clock & Watch antiques sign is undoubtedly a “sign of the times.”  In 1997, antiques were popular, valued and sought after. The  Silent Generation (born between 1920-45) and the Baby Boomers (1945-65) were the demographics that owned and collected antiques. However, the majority of these age groups began moving into smaller homes. This resulted in them selling their antiques to accommodate downsizing. Unfortunately, it had a snowball effect on the antiques market. With the increased supply and less demand, antique prices plummeted. Interestingly, even with reduced prices, the historic items wouldn’t sell and probably won’t for some time.

Finally, another contributing factor is the shift in current interior-design “open-space” trends. Eventually, Vintage Clock and Watch Repair had to eliminate antiques from their business model.

How we made Vintage Clocks & Watch Antiques sign

Paxton Signs designed the Vintage antiques sign using retro-era graphics.  We custom-cut its shape and used vertically-stacked letters for ANTIQUES. Finally, we air-brushed and hand-painted the design in attractive shades of green.  The store displayed the sign at their entrance from 1997 to the early 2000s. Since then, Vintage Clock & Watch moved to various other locations.

An interesting twist…

In an interesting twist, the sign shown in the photo, above, found a home at a local flea market that specializes in – you guessed it – antiques! Paxton Signs offered to buy it back, but the flea market liked the sign so much, they declined our offer. As far as we know, it still hangs on the main entrance interior wall of the antiques flea market.
