Artists, artisans and art patrons are always a pleasure to work with when designing and building a sign. Our dimensional, gold-leafed, hand-painted Tricycle Creations sign was that kind of experience.
Whether whimsical or sophisticated, the gallery offered a variety of mediums. This included sculpture, paintings and drawings. Their appreciation for creative artistic expression influenced the outcome of our collaboration.
How we made the Tricycle Creations sign
Seventeen years ago (2002), the gallery owners contacted us. They wanted a sign that showcased the quality and scope of their inventory. As a result, they chose a gold-leafed, hand-painted, sandblasted sign. They wanted it to be a sign that was as artful as the creations displayed in their gallery.
We decided to enhance the sign’s deep blue background by using subtle, raised filigree that we painted a few shades lighter than the background. Then, we added a hand-painted, antique tricycle that gave the piece a playful cachet. Finally, we hand-carved TRICYCLE CREATIONS as raised, gold leaf letters. We custom-cut the high-density urethane background panel in an interesting shape, giving the sign an unusual look that automatically attracts the eye. The end product was a sign that was uniquely original – a sign that is also a work of communication art.
